Home Bound Healthcare of Kankakee will provide flu vaccines to people in the comfort of their homes again this year.
Many frail, elderly or at-risk people have difficulty leaving home. This service will provide them with the protection they need without the tremendous difficulty they face getting out in the community, said Chris Welch, Regional Administrative Consultant for Home Bound Healthcare. This customer service offers people the flexibility to schedule the flu shot at their convenience.
The Center for Disease Control recommends getting the vaccine as soon as it becomes available in the community, because it takes the body about two weeks to build up immunity. The immunity will last throughout the entire flu season. Anyone over the age of 65 or under the age of 65 with a disability that makes it difficult for them to leave home is eligible to receive the flu shot in their home.
Home Bound Healthcare will offer this service at no out-of-pocket expense for those with Medicare coverage. The cost of the flu vaccine for those without Medicare coverage will be $25.00.
This is the tenth year Home Bound Healthcare, Inc. has provided shots via house call, and the response in past years has been very positive. The response has been great from those who were aware of this service. Several people said it was a tremendous help to them because they have transportation issues or health problems that make it difficult if not impossible for them to leave home or go out in to the community and stand in line at one of the flu clinics, he said.
They decided to add flu shots to their repertoire of home health services because they are committed to providing the highest quality of care to people in the convenience of their homes. We believe in going above and beyond in customer service. We want to make sure that the needs of all people are being met, Welch explained.
Home Bound is also available to schedule flu shot clinics at community buildings, senior housing facilities, and with other organizations.
